Longstanding Member Duncan Christie-Miller is organising this year’s Services Golf event and is both hoping for good weather and an enthusiastic turnout. We will be having a shotgun start and Duncan hopes that all 72 places will be filled.
Last year we donated a very handsome £6300 to the chosen Charity - PTSD Resolution. Roehampton Club golfers once again proved how generous they are.
I am delighted to tell you that we have a wonderful opportunity to play some spirited golf and to support a very special Services Charity - The Air League and 617 Squadron RAF -THE DAMBUSTERS!
These two dynamic organisations work together to provide funds for both sexes to learn to fly. They provide monies to genuine applicants who are highly motivated to learn to fly but do not have sufficient personal funds. These grants are available for young people who want to join the RAF, the Fleet Air Arm or the Army Air Corps - or who want to become civilian airline pilots.
On Monday 10 June both the Air League and 617 Squadron will have representatives at The Club - with a few playing golf with us too - and will make a couple of short presentations while we have our post - match meal. I am sure you do not need reminding of the amazing exploits of 617 Squadron under their VC winning leader Guy Gibson who conducted one of the most astonishing air exploits of WW2. Astonishingly the last survivor of this war changing venture only died this year.
So, I would be very appreciative of as much support as possible for this years interservices golf event as it will be a very exciting and rewarding day for all of us.
